Discontinue Certain Products: Stop using retinoids, strong cosmetics, and glycolic products at least 2 weeks prior to treatment. Avoid Tanning: Avoid sun exposure, sunbeds, and fake tan for at least 4 weeks before your appointment. Medical History: Inform us of any changes in your medical history or medications. Timely Arrival: Arrive on time to allow for any necessary pre-cooling of your skin.

Cooling: Your skin may feel warm post-treatment; use a cool flannel or pack to soothe the area. Mild Reactions: You might experience redness, dryness, or slight itching, which should subside in a few days. Swelling or Bruising: Swelling, particularly around the face, may occur and can last up to 2 weeks. Elevating your head at night and using cool packs can help. Pigmentation Changes: Pigmented areas may darken and form micro-crusts that will naturally flake away over time. Makeup: Makeup can be applied after several hours if the skin is not sore or broken but remove it gently. Avoid Trauma: Avoid strenuous activities, hot baths, saunas, and tight clothing for 4-5 days post-treatment. Sun Protection: Use SPF 50 or higher to protect the treated area from sun exposure. Blistering: If blisters occur, contact us immediately and follow our guidance.

Do I need a patch test?

Yes, a patch test is required at least 48 hours before your treatment to ensure your skin responds well to the illumiFacial®.

The illumiFacial® treatment utilises advanced Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology combined with targeted chemical exfoliation to rejuvenate the skin at a cellular level. During the treatment, IPL emits broad-spectrum light pulses that penetrate the skin's layers. The light energy is selectively absorbed by chromophores, such as melanin in pigmented areas and haemoglobin in blood vessels, without damaging surrounding tissues.

The absorbed light energy is then converted into heat, which initiates controlled thermal injury. This process stimulates the skin's natural healing response, triggering fibroblast activity and promoting the production of new collagen fibres. Simultaneously, the heat causes coagulation of blood vessels and the destruction of pigmented cells, leading to a reduction in visible redness, pigmentation, and vascular lesions. The chemical exfoliation prior to IPL application enhances the absorption and efficacy of the treatment by removing the stratum corneum, allowing for deeper penetration of light energy.
