Once prescribed, Wegovy® or Mounjaro™ is administered as a weekly injection. Who Qualifies for Wegovy® or Mounjaro™?

Wegovy® or Mounjaro™ is prescribed to adults aged 18 to 75 who meet certain criteria. You may qualify for these weight loss medications if:

You have a BMI of 30 or above
You have a BMI of 27 or above and are managing a weight-related health condition such as:

Asthma
Cardiovascular disease
Depression
Diabetes
Fatty liver disease
Gallbladder disease
High blood pressure
History of certain cancers
Osteoarthritis or gout
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
Sleep apnoea

However, Wegovy® or Mounjaro™ are not suitable for everyone. You won’t be able to take these medications if you:

Are over 75 years old
Are pregnant or breastfeeding
Have liver, kidney, or heart failure, an eating disorder, or pancreatitis
Are currently taking insulin, sulphonylureas, or other weight loss drugs like Victoza®, Ozempic®, or Saxenda®

Potential Side Effects

As with any prescription medication, Wegovy® and Mounjaro™ may cause side effects. Some of the most common include nausea, vomiting, and gastrointestinal discomfort, especially during the first few weeks of treatment as your body adjusts.

Other potential side effects may include:

Diarrhoea or constipation
Dizziness
Fatigue
Low blood sugar (especially when used with other diabetes medications)
Mild injection site reactions

It’s important to contact us immediately if you experience severe side effects such as persistent vomiting, signs of pancreatitis (severe abdominal pain, nausea), or signs of an allergic reaction.

While these side effects are rare, they underscore the importance of regular follow-ups and close clinical monitoring throughout your weight loss journey.

What areas can be treated?

It is most often used on forehead lines, crow’s feet, and frown lines. It can also be used for other areas such as the mouth and neck whilst also being an approved treatment for migraine relief and excessive underarm sweating – Check out our menu to read more about our advanced injectable aesthetics treatments.
How long until I see visible results?

You will not see a result straight away. It takes 2-3 days* to begin working, and approximately 2-3 weeks* to see the full effect. If after 3 weeks you are not 100% satisfied, get in touch with us and we can book you in for a top-up treatment free of charge. *Alluzience® begins working within 24 hours so visible results may be seen sooner than with standard botulinum toxin-a products.
How long do the results last for?

Botox® and Azzalure® generally last 3-4 months. There will certainly be patients in which it lasts longer, in the 4–6-month range, or shorter, in the 2-month range. It is also common for first time users to notice that it may not last as long initially but may last longer after the second treatment. Alluzience® is an advanced botulinum toxin-a new wrinkle-relaxing injection launched by Galderma, the world’s largest independent dermatology company). It starts to work sooner than other standard botulinum toxin brands and can last up to 6 months. Individual lifestyle choices may affect the longevity of the treatment e.g. people who exercise a lot or are very expressive may find the effects fade faster.
What products do we use at Peppermint Clinic?

We use Botox®, Azzalure® and a fairly new product called Alluzience®. Alluzience® has the potential to last up to 6 months so you can reduce the number of treatments you undergo per year, but it is not suitable for all areas. If you have questions, please contact us to discuss the individual products in more detail or book a free consultation to come in and have all your questions answered and discuss your suitability for the treatment, your goals, and expectations in more detail.
Does it hurt?

Pain is very subjective and personal - how we feel pain varies a lot from person to person and from time to time, e.g. studies have shown that women rate pain significantly higher in menstrual and premenstrual phases than during the rest of their cycle. A small pinch or sting that you would expect from inserting a small needle into any part of the body and you may feel a brief stinging sensation. The site of injection also influences the sensation of pain e.g. injections around the lips might feel more sensitive than those on the forehead.
Pre-treatment do’s & don’ts

Schedule your appointment at least 4 weeks prior to any special event or holiday to allow time for complete healing and optimal results. Reschedule your appointment if you develop a rash, cold sore or blemish in the treatment area. You should avoid taking blood thinning medications and anti-inflammatory medicines like ibuprofen for the 2 weeks leading up to your treatment. Also avoid aspirin, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, St. John's Wort, and Omega 3/Fish Oil supplements. You may wish to consider taking arnica tablets, available from most pharmacies, for one week prior and one week post treatment can help reduce the risk of swelling and bruising. Avoid alcoholic beverages at least 24 hours prior to treatment. Alcohol may thin the blood and increase the risk of bruising. Discontinue Retin-A two (2) days before and two (2) days after treatment.
Post-treatment do’s & don’ts

Avoid any strenuous activity or exercise for 24 hours after treatment. Avoid aggravating the injection site by rubbing or massaging the area. After 6 hours, you may gently wash the injection site but not before then. Avoid lying down for the first 4 hours post treatment. It is best to avoid alcohol for 24 hours post treatment. If possible, do not restart any blood thinning medication for several days after your treatment. If you are taking prescription blood thinning medication, please contact us to discuss your treatment options or book a free consultation to discuss this aspect of your treatment further. Avoid heat, tanning, self-tan, and tanning beds for 72 hours post treatment. Avoid any facials, laser treatments, or microdermabrasion for a minimum of 10 days following your procedure. If you are unsure about how long to wait before having a certain procedure, contact us or ask your practitioner during your appointment. Using a good sunscreen will protect the longevity of your treatment. Wearing sunglasses to reduce squinting will protect the longevity of your treatment.

The Science Behind It

Both Wegovy® and Mounjaro™ belong to a class of medications known as incretin mimetics. Wegovy® acts as a GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) receptor agonist, while Mounjaro™ is a dual agonist targeting both GLP-1 and GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) receptors.

These hormones play a crucial role in regulating blood sugar and satiety by enhancing insulin secretion in response to meals, slowing gastric emptying, and sending signals to the brain to suppress appetite.

By enhancing the effects of these natural hormones, the medications reduce hunger, increase feelings of fullness, and help control blood sugar levels. This combination leads to effective weight loss and improved metabolic health over time.
