Uncover the Benefits of Masseter Botox® for Your Health and Your Jawline

Understanding the Masseter Muscle

The masseter muscle is a rectangular-shaped muscle in your face and jaw. It is one of the primary muscles that allows you to chew your food and move your jaw. It also serves as a major stabiliser of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) – when you clench your teeth together it keeps your TMJ in the correct position.

What Conditions Can Masseter Botox® Improve?

There are a few conditions that we can treat with botulinum toxin A, also known as Botox®, in this area:

Jaw-slimming: some people are simply born with stronger masseter muscles, or they can become over developed if they are over-worked by teeth grinding or chewing gum a lot. This results in a squarer more masculine jawline. Treatment with Botox® can be used extremely effectively to relax the muscle creating a softer and slimmer jawline.

Bruxism: this is the medical name for grinding or clenching the teeth. This commonly happens at night when we are not aware we are doing it. It can cause the teeth to wear down, along with causing headaches and jaw pain. Jaw Botox® relaxes the masseter muscle enough to stop the habitual grinding of the teeth and clenching of the jaw reducing the wear and tear on the teeth and any associate headaches and jaw pain.

TMJ Disorder: the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is the joint where the head and jaw meet. Some people have problems with this joint and that is called TMJ Disorder. Symptoms vary and can include sore cheeks and jaw, clicking sounds, difficulty opening or closing your mouth, and more. It would usually be diagnosed by your doctor or dentist. Depending on the cause and symptoms of the TMJ Disorder treatment with Botox® to certain jaw muscles including the master muscle can be a very effective complementary or primary treatment relaxing the jaw muscles relieving tension and pain.
