Not everyone wants instant results. And not everyone wants to look like they’ve had something done.
For many of our patients, ageing well isn’t about chasing lines or freezing expressions, it’s about keeping skin strong, healthy and quietly radiant over time. That’s exactly why Sculptra® has become one of our most requested injectable treatments.
It’s subtle.
It’s gradual.
And it works with your skin, not against it.
What Is Sculptra® — and Why Is It Different?
Sculptra® isn’t a traditional dermal filler.
Rather than adding instant volume, it works by stimulating your body’s own collagen production. Collagen is the protein responsible for skin firmness, structure and elasticity. Unfortunately, we naturally lose it as we age.
Sculptra® contains poly-L-lactic acid, which encourages your skin to rebuild collagen slowly and naturally. The result?
Improved firmness, smoother texture, better skin quality and a healthy glow that develops over time.
This makes Sculptra® particularly appealing to people who:
Prefer natural-looking results
Have been hesitant to try fillers
Want to improve skin quality rather than “plump” specific areas
Are focused on long-term ageing well, not quick fixes
Who Is Sculptra® Best Suited For?
At Peppermint Clinic, we most commonly see patients choosing Sculptra® in their 30s through to 60s.
It’s especially popular with:
Patients already investing in skin health (RF microneedling, chemical peels, skin boosters)
Those noticing early volume loss or skin thinning
People who want subtle improvement now, to support better ageing later
Patients who’ve had Sculptra® elsewhere and want ongoing treatment with a trusted, medical-led clinic
Starting earlier doesn’t mean dramatic change. It means small improvements that add up over time.
Why Results Take Time (and Why That’s a Good Thing)
One of the most important things to understand about Sculptra® is that it works gradually.
Some patients notice early improvements in skin texture and mild smoothing within a few weeks. More visible changes typically develop over 3–6 months, as collagen production increases and the skin structure strengthens. The full effect often becomes apparent between 6–12 months.
This slow process is exactly what makes results look so natural.
Patients often tell us that:
Friends comment they look “rested” or “fresh”
Skin looks healthier and more resilient
Even years later, their skin still has a glow
Clinical studies show benefits can last up to two years, with maintenance treatments helping to prolong results.
The before and after images below illustrate the gradual improvements that can be achieved with Sculptra® over time. Individual results will vary, and outcomes depend on skin condition, treatment plan and number of sessions.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
Most patients require 2–4 treatment sessions, spaced around 4–6 weeks apart. The exact number depends on factors such as:
Skin condition
Age
Degree of volume loss
Individual response to treatment
This is always discussed during your consultation, where we tailor a plan specifically for you.
Does Sculptra® Hurt? Is There Downtime?
Discomfort is usually mild and short-lived. We use small needles and cannulas, and numbing or local anaesthetic may be used where appropriate. Some tenderness, swelling or bruising afterwards is normal and typically settles within a few days.
Sculptra® is considered a low-downtime treatment, and most people return to normal activities straight away.
You may be advised to:
Use cold packs after treatment
Avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol and heat for 24–48 hours
Follow the 5-5-5 massage rule (5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days) to help distribute the product evenly and reduce the risk of nodules
Your practitioner will guide you through all aftercare in detail.
How Long Do Results Last?
One of the standout benefits of Sculptra® is its longevity.
Clinical trials and patient feedback show improvements can last up to two years, including better firmness, smoother skin and improved radiance. Results vary depending on lifestyle, skin age and follow-up treatments, but many patients feel the benefits long after their initial course.
Is Sculptra® Safe?
Sculptra® has been used in aesthetic medicine for many years and has a strong safety profile when administered correctly.
Common side effects include:
Swelling
Bruising
Redness
Tenderness
These usually resolve within days to a couple of weeks.
Rare side effects can include small nodules or unevenness. This is why correct technique, appropriate patient selection and thorough aftercare are so important.
Sculptra® may not be suitable for everyone, including:
Those with active skin infections in the treatment area
People prone to keloid or hypertrophic scarring
Individuals with certain autoimmune or immunosuppressed conditions
Pregnant or breastfeeding patients
A full medical consultation is always carried out before treatment.
